| July 22, 2009 NCA Camp |
| Friends, I just wanted to touch base with all of you and let you know how wonderful this group of young ladies did at our NCA Summer Camp 2009! NCA hosted our camp at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and had over 480 participants this year. With hours of hard work and determination, LHS CHEER received the following awards during camp: -All three team received bids to the NCA High School Nationals in Dallas, TX. -26 members nominated for the All-American Team (cheerleaders demonstrating excellence in one of the following areas: jumps, tumblings, stunts, leadership, motions, and dance). The entire Varsity team was nominated. Out of these 26 young ladies, 11 made the NCA All-American Team and are eligible to attend several NCA Special Events. -LEO the LION was named to the NCA All-American Mascot Team and received a Spirit Stick. -All three teams (Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity) took home the coveted NCA Spirit Stick for exhibiting genuine school spirit. -The entire cheer program was awarded the Herkie Award for showing sportsmanship and team unity. -All three teams won Top Team in the respective divisions. Varsity and Junior Varsity competed in the performance division and Freshmen competed in the Game Day division. -Senior Captain, Meagan McDonald, was awarded a Leadership Award for demonstrating excellence in leadership skills. To my recollection, no captain in the past eight years has ever received this award! -Lastly, three of our seniors, Karli Papa, Meagan McDonald and Amanda Robinson were given applications to join the NCA Staff. If they choose to do so, they may apply and tryout in the spring. To be given an application is a HUGE honor which was only offered to six cheerleaders at the entire camp. I want to thank all of these young ladies for a phenomenal and memorable camp! Without all of their hard work, sweat, pain, tears, joy, laughter and true spirit, LHS CHEER would not be what it is today. I know they will take all of this back to LHS and make our school proud. To all of the parents, thank you for entrusting us with your precious child. I hope we have not pushed them too far...they should be exhausted, but better cheerleaders. Please know that we are honored to work with them and hope that if you have any questions or concerns, you feel comfortable calling or e-mailing us at anytime. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Leighton. She was absolutely fabulous and did an amazing job. She stepped up and really helped me take these girls to a whole other level. I am officially awarding her a GOLD STAR! Again, cheers to a job well done! Coach Frith |
