LISD Cheer handbook 2008 / 2009
1. Attend all practices, games, organized events, and fund
raising events throughout the entire school year.
2. Be on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to work for any
scheduled activity.
3. RESPECT the rights of others at all times.
4. Conduct yourself in a RESPONSIBLE AND RESPECTABLE MANNER AT
ALL TIMES.
5. For safety reasons, NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND may be worn while
cheering or stunting at practice or any event or activity. This
includes all kinds of earrings, belly button rings, tongue
rings, or any other body piercing jewelry. THIS IS FOR YOUR
SAFETY!
6. Wear correct uniform attire assigned to each activity and
practice. (This includes all uniforms, bloomers, socks, ribbons,
hairstyle, etc.)
7. Hairstyle for girls will be up in a high ponytail (no buns)
for practices and games with the appropriate ribbon. No half up
- half down is allowed due to safety reasons. Hairstyle for boys
will be neatly trimmed or pulled back for longer hair. Facial
hair rules follow the dress code rules.
8. Fingernails must be kept at fingertip length. If girls have
acrylic nails, they must be fingertip length also due to safety
concerns. Neutral nail polish may be worn at performances, but
polish must not be visible from the stands.
9. Do not chew gum or eat at any practice or activity while
cheering.
10. Complete all duties or jobs assigned to you by the coaches
and/or chosen leaders of the team before leaving practice, game,
or event.
11. Sell all spirit items or fund raising items issued to you,
or you may be responsible for paying for them.
12. Departure times for away games will be announced prior to
each game. You are not allowed to leave the school before any
games, home or away. Meals will be provided by the parents for
football games.
13. Concentrate on cheering at all activities and focus on the
game at hand. (No talking, looking around, etc.)
14. Be back from breaks at the assigned time for any practice or
event. For football games, you must be back on the field at
least three (3) minutes before the end of the half, unless told
otherwise by the coach.
15. DO NOT LEAVE ANY EVENT OR PRACTICE until all equipment has
been put away, all duties have been completed, and the COACHES
have given you the OK to leave.
16. Since you are a leader in and out of uniform, there will be
NO PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION allowed while you are in uniform
or while you are representing the cheer team at LHS. This
includes holding hands, kissing, hugging, and arms around each
other making out, or sitting in his/her lap. You should be aware
of what is appropriate and what is not. If you have doubts then
don’t do it!
17. GIRLS - On game days, during school hours, when wearing the
uniform you must wear only cheerleader uniform attire. No wind
pants or sweat pants under the skirt is allowed. You may wear
tights or leggings (as decided per squad, all or none), or your
uniform pants. No sweater, jacket, or sweatshirt other than the
uniform sweater issued to you, sweatshirts purchased as a squad,
or a school letter jacket may be worn with the uniform. No top,
t-shirt, or blouse may be worn with the uniform skirt without
the approval from the coaches. No flip-flops, street shoes, or
other type of tennis shoes may be worn with the uniform. Only
the cheerleader shoes purchased as a squad may be worn with the
uniform. No colored socks. Only plain white socks with out a
logo or imprint may be worn. You are not allowed to wear your
letter jacket or sweatshirt while stunting or cheering. You may
wear your long sleeve half top and windbreaker (as decided per
squad, all or none). You are representing the cheerleading
program when in uniform and how you look reflects on every
cheerleader and the cheer program. BOYS - On game days, during
school hours, you will wear your uniform. Only sweatshirts
purchased as a squad or a school letter jacket may be worn. No
street shoes, thongs, or sandals can be worn while in uniform.
Cheer shoes purchased by the boys on the team must be worn. You
are not allowed to wear your letter jacket or sweatshirt while
stunting or cheering. You are allowed to wear your windbreaker,
as decided per squad. You are representing the cheerleading
program when in uniform and how you look reflects on every
cheerleader and the cheer program.
18. All cheerleaders/mascot must be in designated uniform before
arriving at the stadium.
19. A cheerleader who is not allowed to participate due to
demerits, unexcused absences, discipline issues, etc., will be
expected to attend the event in appropriate uniform but she/he
will not be allowed to perform or cheer. She/he will be expected
to sit with the coach/squad for the entire game or performance.
20. On football game days, a cheer member may not leave school.
If a student has half or three-quarter days, he/she must be at
the school by 4:00 PM, no later.
21. NO COACH = NO PRACTICE = NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
All constitution rules and regulations not abided by will result
in a STRIKE or immediate consequences given by coaches. Strikes
are recorded by both the coach and the cheerleader/mascot and
could lead to the suspension or removal of that person from any
LHS cheer squad. (See “Three Strike Policy” handout.)
